Private Apartment, Dalston – Small Projects

Summary

A series looking at our more compact projects – A flexible interior for a designer in a vibrant, creative neighbourhood.

Inspired by the Japanese Shoji screen, a flexible partition creates a point of focus and animates the apartment.

It also allows for a hierarchy of spaces, creating a guest room when fully shut. With a monocoque structure similar to a plane wing, the screen is strong, but slender.

Steel shelving works in harmony with timber board, polycarbonate and exposed aluminium for a feel at once industrial and crafted. Cupboards are made from painted metal poles fixed floor to ceiling, with open shelves and rails between.
