Feasibility study for 5,000 square metres of warehousing and mixed use on the island of Mahé.
Our proposed main elevations are inspired by the local industrial vernacular of corrugated metal sheeting, welded metalwork and patchwork patterns of differing colour, patina and weathering. Each warehouse front is assigned a distinct colour tone to differentiate it and silver finish cladding sheets on all other elevations reflect their surroundings. The roof is covered in PV solar panels which alongside extensive rainwater harvesting maximise sustainable energy use on site.
The project embraces a bold graphic scheme with large numbers and signage to match the playful warehouse fronts. The canopies fold like origami to create movement across the longer façades and are inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s iconic geodesic structures.
