Studio Ageli developed the concept, design and details in collaboration for artist Haroon Mirza for the show: ‘Everything Was, Is and Always Will Be’. This included: a large eight-pointed star installation atop the ten-storey fire station Tower; and a kinetic sound and light assembly piece in Gallery 3.
The star (Miraj Al Shams) is constructed of a Corten steel frame, photovoltaic panels, and a laser cut anodised plate and is approximately 3m in diameter.
The Dyson Sphere is made of T-slot self aligning extrusions formed into eight standalone frames with photovoltaics; the central chandelier is a laser cut and folded star form, equipped with lights, and suspended from an octagonal ceiling rose.
The work was shown at the Fire Station Doha, in a a major show for the Art Basel Qatar debut. Celebrated artist Wael Shawky is Artistic Director of Fire Station, and was also Artistic Director for the inaugural edition of the fare.
‘The exhibition features two installations and a performance newly realized in response to the site’s architectural and daily landscape. At Gallery 3, the multimedia installation Musica Universalis (Dyson Sphere 03) (2026) references physicist Freeman Dyson’s (1923-2020) hypothetical megasphere designed to harvest a star’s energy; instead, Mirza utilizes a photovoltaic structure to draw power from an artificial light source, animating a sonic ecosystem. The synthetic energy conversion shifts back to the celestial in the Tower with Miraj Al Shams (2026), a public installation where choreographed light and sound are transduced from solar energy captured atop the building. The work activates daily at sunset to precede the Maghrib Adhan, bridging modern circuitry with cycles of prayer and cosmology. On February 4, 2026, Mirza intensifies the tension between the technological and mystical in a live context with Adam, Eve, Others and UFO in the Age of LLM’s, a performance that translates electronic signals from his original 2013 work into 111 Hz—a frequency associated with ancient spiritual resonance and neurophysiological response—realized by a live ensemble of eight singers, a soprano, and four actors and performers enacting a script centered on narratives of origin.’ (Fire Station)
